Honestly, if there's one think that will keep the memory of a holiday alive it's the holiday photos - so print them off and put them into a photo album.
We've all got hundreds and hundreds of photos on our phones from past holidays that we NEVER look at - unless your phone decides to do you a slideshow : Memories, Corfu 2012. I love it so much when it resurfaces a past holiday and then I'm always horrified at the random photos it decides to suggest (a close up of the menu, fifteen of the room all from bad angles, screenshots of my boarding pass). What better way to rectify all this by doing a holiday photo album yourself!
I've just come back from a really relaxing holiday with my Sister in Goa and as a Thank You I'm making her a little photo album so the whole process is very fresh in my mind and I'm going to share it with you.
- The first thing is to go through the phone selecting all the POTENTIAL photos, just favourite all the ones you like and then you have a really good base to start. Be generous as it's much easier to cull than to have to trawl back through all the original photos.
- Then think about the flow of the photo album, do you want it to be chronological or do you want it to be place driven (beach, town, appartment, pool) or activity driven (days out, days in, evenings, sports) and then group your photos into sub sections to make sure you've got all your memories covered. Then make a folder on your phone of the ones that make the cut
- Then have a good count up and work out how many photos have made the cut as this will determine the album you go for!
- You'll also need to have a little think here about the size of the photos and the layout eg. are you just going 4" x 6" or will you throw in some large ones for fun. Are the photos mostly portrait or landscape?
- Then once you've got the vague number eg. 200 then you'll be well equipped to make a decision on the size of the photo album. Two hundred is far too many for our smallest album and just a few too many for our medium album so really you're looking at the landscape or the large
- Choose your album from our lovely selection (if it's a BeGolden album you want) and then get the photos printed...
- I personally use the FreePrints app as it's so easy but I do think they are all more or less the same. You give the app permission to access your photo library and then select to print all the ones in the 'final cut folder'. I always print more than I need as when it comes to it there are often ones I no longer like
- Then the fun begins! You really have to relax into this stage and enjoy the process. Don't be too fussy about it, choose the ones for the first page and then just take it from there.
- Arm yourself with a hot drink or a glass of wine, holiday vibes playing, plenty of mounting squares or sticky tape and away you go. Mix landscape and portrait photos up, add writing, stick a flyer/ticket in and create a really lovely holiday photo album that will be your instant ticket back to your happy place.
I really hope I haven't made it sound too faffy! It's far from it and actually it's really enjoyable. Also, I firmly believe that it's 100% worth it. Flicking through a holiday album is an instant time transporter and good vibe giver!
