I didn't realise this was even a thing when I had my first child; she was only four months old and couldn't yet sit up so getting presents for her wasn't even on my radar. However when my mother-in-law arrived for the festivities she was horrified. So on Christmas Eve I wrapped up some of my daughter's tights and a couple of toys from her cot and put them under the tree. Job done.
Now I do get the point. You want to mark the fact that it's their First Christmas. This becomes even more of an issue if older siblings are involved as they too want to make sure there's something for the baby if everyone else is getting gifts!
